How we work
Senior people, independent advice, and work that lasts beyond us. This is what to expect when you work with Devsultants.
01What we believe
Six principles
Independent
We have no affiliations with technology vendors, so our advice is about what is right for you, not what we resell.
Senior
Our team only includes proven professionals we have personally worked with. Senior expertise should be directly accessible.
Honest
We will tell you when a simpler, cheaper option is the better choice, including when that means AI, or us, is not the answer.
Right-sized
As a lean partnership we keep overheads low, and we size solutions to the problem, so benefits arrive sooner.
Secure by design
We build security in from the start, so our work suits even the most sensitive and demanding environments.
Lasting
We work alongside your people and transfer our skills, so the improvement carries on after we leave.
02Advise, Create, Engage
Three ways we help
Advise
Cut through complexity with practical, independent advice.
Create
Turn sound decisions into secure, usable capability.
03Engagements
The shapes our work takes
Every engagement is shaped around the outcome you need. Most begin with a conversation, and many with a short piece of work to get the facts straight.
A conversation
- Good for
- Working out whether, and how, we can help.
- You get
- A practical next step, whether or not that involves us.
A diagnostic
- Good for
- Getting the facts straight before a big decision.
- You get
- Evidence, options and a clear recommendation, such as a cost baseline, a Discovery or a viability assessment.
A focused project
- Good for
- A defined outcome, from a business case to a working prototype.
- You get
- The thing itself, built with your team and handed over with the knowledge to run it.
A delivery partnership
- Good for
- Leading or strengthening delivery of a programme or a portfolio of change.
- You get
- People who work alongside yours, from planning and PMO to delivering the benefits.
A sounding board
- Good for
- Leaders making decisions in ambiguous circumstances.
- You get
- Senior, independent advice when you need it, from people who already understand your situation.

05Questions
Questions people ask us
Do you only work with the public sector?
No. Many of our case studies are from government and policing, because that is where much of our team's experience is, and some of the most demanding work there is. The same approach works for any organisation that needs technology to deliver real, measurable value.
Are you tied to any technology vendors?
No. We are independent, with no affiliations to technology vendors, so we can recommend whatever is right for you, including open-source and simpler options.
Who will actually do the work?
Experienced practitioners we have personally worked with. We are a lean partnership, so there are no layers between you and the expertise.
Can you work on site, or in secure environments?
Yes. We work on or off site, and we design security in from the start, so our work suits sensitive environments. Our products run entirely on hardware you control.
How is our work priced?
It depends on the shape of the work. Once we understand what you need, we will set out the scope and cost before anything starts, so there are no surprises.
Will you tell us if we don't need you?
Yes. Our first suggestion is always a practical next step, whether or not that involves us.
